One thing we love about
Bali is that you can jump on a scooter and find many of free adventures and the
picturesque beaches that can sometime be quite private. You’ll need google maps for this one though
as it is quite hidden, but maps gets you there safely. LOCATION
Our first trip to Bali
we stopped at Greenbowl Beach Ungasan and found it to be this secret beach with
hundreds of monkey lined stairs to get down the bottom to. When we first visited Greenbowl beach there
were only another 3 people and one of those was a local trying to sell shell
bracelets.
We came with the girls
last time and took it upon ourselves this time, to embark on the journey while
the kids had a ball in kids club. All we
could remember was we had to stop every 10 steps to let their poor little legs
rest, and Madi has really bad legs at the moment due to flat feet- so we knew
she wouldn’t cope.
The stairs down this
time still felt like they went forever and had become even more uneven, but
they weren’t as difficult as we last remembered them to be. When we hit the
bottom we also noticed that a lot more tourists had found this little patch of
paradise and the sand was littered with people.
Nevertheless we found
our little patch of sand in front of the massive bat cave that also serves as a
temple to the locals. Last time we saw bats, but this time we were lucky to see
one.
One tip we suggest is
taking beach shoes with you (or sandals like I did) to walk into the beach as
the shells, rocks and coral is very sharp.
Once you are in though
the water is refreshingly cool, and the ocean was calm for about 200metres out.
So we strapped on the snorkel and had a look at the world that lives below.
It is honestly a different
world underwater and only 2 metres out from the sand you can see tropical fish
weaving in and out of the coral in masses.
If you don’t however
take a snorkel we saw plenty of fish in knee-deep water while we were just
walking around the coral in the ocean.
And if for some reason you can't see fish we promise there are plenty of beautiful shells the litter this ocean, we founds heaps (of course putting them back after admiring them- don't want to mess with someone elses home!)
This particular day there were hundreds of local fisherman down there doing their bit for what I imagine would be their dinner.

We spent a decent 2
hours down here before we decided to make the accent back to the top. We
absolutely blitzed the stairs up and Erin puts it down to the scenery you get
to enjoy heading up. Bright blue ocean surrounds you and the monkeys play in
the forest. It took all of about 10minutes to get up to the top with a couple
of stops for photo opportunities.
We love Greenbowl Beach
and if ever we have another day with nothing on and cannot find any other
swimming spots we’ll come back here. But for now we’re going to get talking to
our friends who are locals who will hopefully be able to shed some light on
more quiet swimming spots.
