ACCOMMODATION REVIEW • BALI• Premier Best Western UBUD

Not going to lie, we booked this place because we found an extremely cheap deal on Scoopon.com.au. We paid $299 for 3 nights + an extra $35AUD per night for the extra bed, but this included-  Daily breakfast, Daily Lunch or Dinner, 1x 60min massage for us bigger kids, 1x cocktail or beer per day for us big kids and 1 way airport transfers. As we weren’t coming from the airport the hotel was happy to pick us up from another hotel in Seminyak, rather then the airport- handy.

Upon arriving the beautiful staff came over and brought us infused tea (this morning it was ginger and lemon) and a cold face towel to cool us down in a cute animal shape.

It took a little while for them to prepare our room, but we found out why it took so long and we we're a-ok with waiting anyway. Surrounded by banana trees growing bananas, rice paddies, coconut trees and forest wildlife making sounds we could have waited here for an hour and still be happy and content.

OUR ROOM

Made me cry- well our room didn’t make me, but what they did to our room in honour of our little familymoon/honeymoon.

When we walked down to our room, we found two kissing swans holding two red roses, rose petals in a square shape on our king size bed with I (love heart) You on it.

Our room was modern and very clean. The aircon here was freezing it was like we had landed in Antarctica when we got in our room, a nice change from the humidity outside. As I said above we had a king size bed and the girls had a single bed right next to ours to share- window side.

Then when we walked into our bathroom they had filled the bathtub with beautiful bright flowers in the shape of a love heart, the filled the entire bath water surface (you could not see the bottom of the bath).  This bathroom was actually bathroom goals. The slate tiled walls, with all natural stones and accessories were just beautiful. The shower was absolutely massive and even had a tap down the bottom, which we found great for our washing bucket.

Our little balcony was semi-private but on the same level as the second tier pool. So we could easily sit out there, while relaxing watching the girls splash away in the pool.

SECURITY

There was no real need for security out here to be completely fair. There was a security that we saw a couple of times in the main reception area, but that was about it.  We never once felt unsafe, the worst thing that could happen in this part of Ubud I think, would be for a coconut to fall from the trees above.

FOOD
We ate the buffet breakfast on the last day, as every morning we were off exploring super early and founds some perfect breakfast experiences in town.

It was an ordinary continental with an Indonesian twist sort of breakfast. There was an abundance of fresh fruit, which Mrs M was very happy about. But nothing jaw-dropping here, but it did the job. We also didn’t get sick, so food preparations must be up to standards to.

We also had a few late night dinners here at the same restaurant- the hotel only has one in the heart of the resort. We shared all of our dishes, as that’s what we tend to do when we go out- that way we can try everything.  The dinner was great as well, with a decent choice of food options.

POOL

The peace and serenity this pool provided was one to none.  It was a two tiered infinity pool overlooking dense forest and a village off in the distance on the other side. The top pool sits about 3 metres higher then the bottom one with a waterfall dropping off to the bottom pool.

We spent most our time at the bottom pool splashing in the waterfall, mainly because it was closest to our room.

It’s not a massive pool, but most of the time we were in there by ourselves anyway, so it was perfect for us.

FAMILY FRIENDLY

I wouldn’t say they go above and beyond for families but they definitely welcome them.  There isn’t anything overly exciting for kids here, it is more for peace and quiet and to delve into the untouched parts of Bali. We love Ubud and will be returning every single time we come to Bali.

They did set up a bed next to our king size bed (which was lopsided so overnight one would end up squished) and did cost another $35AUD a night.

If we were to come back here, it would be for the kid-free holiday experience, or when they are much older.

KIDS CLUB

Unfortunately, for Premier Best Western there is no kids club. But they do have day trips on everyday you can get involved with, but you have to be with your children at all times (fair play)!  We didn’t come here expecting a kids club, or kids pool or even kid playroom- and there isn’t any of that here. We came here for a rest and to explore the more North-side of Bali.

LOCATION

A very quiet secluded area, with a cute local store out the front open only when there is light. Best Western is about a 20minute to half an hour walk to the Ubud Art Market in the main strip of Ubud. Or a 5 minute scooter ride down the hill. There really wasn’t too much around us at close proximity as we were nestled in the dense rainforest, which I was fine with. But be warned we found in Ubud the mozzies are at the hungriest, blood sucking worst! We made sure every time we stepped outside we were spraying insect repellent on us (our local fave is Soffel).

SPA

We ended our stay at Premier Best Western Ubud with the 1 x 60 minutes Traditional Balinese Massage each adult included in our package. It was one of the best massages overall we have ever had. It was a couple’s massage, so we snuck off for an hour to a room with two beds, a spa (obviously for the spa package or milk baths) a shower- to get clean if you wanted to afterwards and a big open back wall overlooking a temple and rice paddies.  Half way through our massage and it began to rain adding to the serenity and making me fall asleep for the duration of the massage- divine!

Overall Premier Best Western was one hotel to truly make this experience feel like a honeymoon with the small little things included.

It is a smaller type resort, but it had everything needed for a few days of R&R.  We also noticed the WIFI here was phenomenal – never an issue and super fast (faster then NBN at home). We loved Best Western Ubud and could see ourselves staying here again (without young kids) but have lots of other places on our bucket list to first explore.
